Senior Manager – Technical Department

Founded in 1933, the practice comprises 26 partners and approximately 280 staff supplying a range of services spanning audit, corporate taxation, private client services, VAT and forensic accounting, together with a range of sector groups offering specialist industry knowledge.

The Department:

The Technical Department works with the whole firm, but particularly the Audit Department, which completes audits of organisations of every type and size in various branches of commerce and industry. The Technical Department supports the Audit Department by:

  1. Devising policies and procedures with regards to the conduct of accounts and audit work.
  2. Advising on use of accounting and auditing tools and software
  3. Arranging for staff to be aware of the latest professional developments.
  4. Consulting on quality control measures.
  5. Helping partners and staff resolve difficult and complex technical issues.
  6. Liaising with the training department on regular training courses.

The Role:

We are looking for a senior individual to lead our Technical Department, reporting to our Technical Partner and Technical Committee. You should be a qualified ACA, with ideally 7-10 years post qualification experience working on a range of audits or within a technical team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Demonstrating leadership and being proactive
  • Promoting high-quality work.
  • Maintaining a full awareness of changing Technical requirements.
  • Ensuring that all legal and professional standards are met through:
    • Maintenance and development of accounts and audit procedures
    • Communication of regular developments through manuals, notes, reminders and training
  • Consulting on the use of appropriate accounts and audit tools and software.
  • Participating in the monitoring of performance through the review of draft and final financial statements and audit files
  • Helping partners and staff to resolve technical issues (after research if necessary) as they arise.
  • Participating in mid-tier technical meetings and collaboration.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven ability to solve problems in complex and unfamiliar areas
  • Strong knowledge of the legal and professional requirements relating to audit and accounting
  • The ability to resist pressure to reach a conclusion which is not merited
  • A proven ability to prioritise workload and deliver projects on a timely basis
  • Excellent communication skills both internally and externally.
  • Excellent organisational skills

Additionally, it would be desirable to possess knowledge and experience in software packages including Audit Automation, Accounts Production, Alphatax, Excel, Inflo, Word, and Outlook, although training will be provided on these.
