Founded in 1933, the practice comprises 27 partners and approximately 280 staff supplying a range of services spanning audit, corporate taxation, private client services, VAT and forensic accounting, together with a range of sector groups offering specialist industry knowledge.
The Internal Accounts Department comprises some 12 staff dealing with the Time and Billings function, Purchase Ledger, Treasury and Credit Control along with all Management and Statutory Accounts requirements for the HW Fisher Group of Companies.
We are looking for a qualified accountant to lead this department. This role will require somebody committed to a high standard of work. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Board Partner responsible for finance. Previous experience of a professional services organisation would be an advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the role are varied and will include:
Taking responsibility for ensuring the financial processes, systems and controls are operating effectively. Evaluate and develop all business processes and ensure integrity of all information
Managing the internal accounts team and overseeing/reviewing sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, cash postings, client accounts and all general ledger entries
Responsibility for maintaining statutory compliance of the Group
Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts
Reviewing of all management accounts packs and ensure accurate monthly reporting of all business KPI’s to stakeholders
Liaising closely with department heads to assist them in producing departmental budgets and monitoring their KPI’s
Maintaining close relationships with the firms bankers and key suppliers
Maintaining a register of insurances, liaising with insurers to ensure cover is appropriate, adequate and compliance with policy conditions
Reviewing Business Continuity Plans and ensure their effective controls and testing
Project management of process changes and implementations
Liaising with auditors, solicitors and other third party professionals providing services to the Group
Other ad hoc duties in line with the role
The successful candidate should be an experienced Financial Controller. They should also demonstrate the following qualities:
Self motivated with a proactive mind set
Excellent attention to detail
Strong numeric and analytical skills
Strong problem solving skills
An advanced level ability with Microsoft Excel and pivot tables, along with being a strong general IT user
Familiarity with using pivot tables for data analysis
Able to work well under pressure
Able to work in a team environment and demonstrate the ability to manage and motivate team members
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Fully up to date and strong technical standard knowledge generally, and FRS102 in detail
Experience with M & A activities
A good understanding of VAT and PAYE, reviewing returns and submissions to HMRC
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant. Previous experience of a professional services organisation and the use of Access Accounts would be of benefit but not essential
