Accountant – Internal Accounts Department

The Firm:

Founded in 1933, the practice comprises 27 partners and approximately 280 staff supplying a range of services spanning audit, corporate taxation, private client services, VAT and forensic accounting, together with a range of sector groups offering specialist industry knowledge.

The Department:

The Internal Accounts Department comprises some 12 staff dealing with the Time and Billings function, Purchase Ledger, Treasury and Credit Control along with all Management and Statutory Accounts requirements for the HW Fisher Group of Companies.

The Role:

We are looking for an Accountant to work within this department. This role will require somebody committed to a high standard of work. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Financial Controller.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 The duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Preparation of monthly KPI figures for the bank/partners
  • Preparing and posting journals including accruals and prepayments
  • Preparing annual management/practice packs for the board
  • Quarterly reporting to department heads of their KPI’s and assist them in producing departmental budgets
  • Submitting HMRC correspondence (EC Sales List / Intermediary Report) and National Statistics
  • Analysis of various expense headings
  • Producing monthly/quarterly service and labour invoices
  • Annual WIP Valuation & bad debt
  • Other ad hoc duties in line with the role

The Candidate:

The successful candidate should possess at least 3 years’ experience within an accounting role. They should also demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Self motivated with a pro-active mindset
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong numeric and analytical skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • An advanced level ability with Microsoft Excel, along with being a strong general IT user
  • Familiarity with using pivot tables for data analysis
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

The ideal candidate will be a part-qualified accountant or possibly qualified by experience.

Previous experience of a professional services organisation and the use of Access Accounts would be of benefit but not essential.
