I joined HW Fisher in 2005 as a part-qualified accountant and completed my accountancy (ACCA) and tax (CTA) qualifications with the firm.
I work with a variety of clients, providing them with advice and assistance on accounting and tax matters. Having previously worked in an auditing and accounting role, I support my clients with valuable and sound accounting advice. With my tax qualifications, I am able to further enhance my clients’ financial objectives by offering them a range of taxation solutions and comprehensive advice to mitigate tax.
Having been at HW Fisher for over 14 years, I have worked with and advised high net-worth individuals, owner-managed businesses and partnerships in various industries, especially clients in the media sector. I have a number of prominent clients in the TV and Radio industry as well as renowned authors and journalists. I have also assisted clients who have started up new ventures, and supported them while they grow and become fully fledged businesses.
I am fortunate to have gained a wide breadth of knowledge and experience in a range of taxes, including income tax, corporation tax, capital gains and inheritance tax. I use this exposure to offer my clients an added advantage in achieving their aim of reducing their tax burden as much as possible.
My accounting work also includes advising clients on their business structures, including setting up of sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, and limited liability partnerships. My advice often extends to include the costs verses benefits of running specific structures, other taxes to be considered and compliance costs met, and overall tax saved.
I am happy to say that a number of my clients seek my advice before making major decisions in their business and personal finances as they know that I will always give them up-to-date, honest, insightful advice, and provide them with workable solutions.
As a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), I have been involved with dealing with various tax enquiry issues. One such example is when we took on a number of media clients where HMRC was investigating their accounts and tax returns for a number of years passed, increasing their tax liabilities and raising penalties and interest for these years.
Under my direction, my team and I were able to effectively reproduce the accounts and tax returns for these years in a very short period of time. By using the correct accounting standards, and making claims for only tax deductible expenses, we challenged HMRC on its decisions on the expenses claimed and disallowed, and successfully argued a number of cases, not only reducing our clients’ overall tax liabilities, but also avoiding penalties being raised in some of these cases.
These clients initially looked for our advice in regards to the HMRC enquiry only, but after our success and positive outcome, they have now become permanent clients. We now not only provide them with accounting and tax advice, but also back-office support and business advice, and we look after their personal and business finances.
