How would you describe your role in three words? Resolving tax problems
Favourite thing about your role? Working closely with clients and resolving those situations that appear totally unresolvable.
What is your career highlight? A few years ago I was part of a small Working Group that helped defend Gift Aid relief for a number of connected charitable entities. Collaboration at its best!
You specialise in ‘Tax Resolution’. Tell us what your work involves.
I help clients resolve HMRC tax investigations, enquiries & disputes. My clients vary enormously but they all have one thing in common – a tax issue to resolve with HMRC.
Tell us about some of the top trends you have been following in the past year – is there something that businesses should be aware of?
The global pandemic has affected us all over the past year and the Government’s furlough support for businesses has been very helpful. It is interesting to see how HMRC are specifically dealing with perceived fraudulent and/or incorrect claims and I do believe that going forwards every business who made a claim will have this checked.
What is one piece of advice you would give to clients at the moment?
The pandemic has been immensely challenging, but the resilience of businesses has been amazing. Take the best bits of what we have learned over the last year and use these to create the new normal way of working.
What are your goals for your area of the business over the next 12 months?
To make it succeed – as well as collaborating with my fellow Partners, the primary goal is to develop the external referral business and to help continue getting the HW Fisher name and brand out in the market.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Outside of work, what would you be doing?
At the last count, we have four dogs at home and it’s nice to get out and let them take me for a walk around the Essex countryside. I also love a game of darts but my real passion is music and I like listening and occasionally playing along with a guitar to all types, so long as it’s 70’s or 80’s Rock!
